Caribbean Business and Land Registration Project

Project Overview: This project aimed to simplify the business and land registration process across Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, and Saint Lucia. As the Art Director and Designer, I led a multifaceted team through research, content development, brochure and video production, and web application design, ensuring a user-centric and culturally tailored approach in every aspect.

Project Goals:

  • Develop an easily navigable online platform for business and land registration across five Caribbean nations.
  • Create educational and promotional materials, including brochures and explainer videos, tailored to each country’s specific needs.
  • Design and develop an intuitive, informative web application that streamlines the registration process.

 

My Role and Responsibilities:

  • Art Direction and Design: Guided the visual and interactive elements of all project components, ensuring they were both culturally appropriate and user-friendly.
  • Strategic Content Development: Oversaw the translation of complex legal and procedural information into accessible content for various formats.
  • In-depth Research and Analysis: Conducted thorough research into each country’s specific registration processes, legal nuances, and cultural elements, ensuring the content and design were both accurate and relevant.

  • Conducted meticulous research, including analyzing existing systems, user needs, and country-specific regulatory environments.
  • Extracted key insights, such as recognizing the user’s desire for simplified, jargon-free content and identifying emotional touchpoints in the registration journey.

 

Content Development and Localization

  • Authored and adapted content, ensuring it resonated with the local culture and norms of each country, as discussed and analyzed in our conversations.
  • Developed engaging narratives for brochures and video scripts, incorporating specific regional elements to enhance relatability and clarity.

Brochure and Video Production

Brochure Design:

  • Designed a series of visually appealing and informative brochures.
  • Developed custom layouts that accommodate the distinct content of each country, ensuring brand consistency.

Video Development:

  • Oversaw the conceptualization and scriptwriting for explainer videos, distilling complex registration processes into digestible content.
  • Directed the aesthetic and narrative flow, ensuring alignment with the project’s goals.

Voice Over Casting:

  • Cast and directed voice-over artists for each country, selecting individuals who could authentically represent the local dialects and tones.
  • Managed recording sessions to capture clear and engaging narration for the videos.

Web Application Development

UX Research

  1. User Research:

    • Conducted comprehensive research, including surveys, interviews, and focus groups across the Caribbean.
    • Targeted diverse groups including potential business owners, land registrants, legal professionals, and government officials.
  2. Persona Development:

    • Created detailed user personas representing our diverse audience, focusing on their goals, motivations, and challenges.
    • Used these personas, like Small Business Owner Sarah and Land Registrant Linda, to guide the design process.
  3. Problem Statement Refinement and User Journey Maps:
      • Analyzed research data to refine our problem statements, accurately reflecting user challenges.
      • Developed user journey maps to visualize the current experiences of our personas, identifying key pain points and opportunities for improvement.

UX Design

  1. UX Design of the Web Application:

    • Designed a site map that structured the website’s information architecture, ensuring user-friendly navigation.
    • Developed wireframes for the homepage and country-specific landing pages, focusing on clarity and ease of use.
    • Created high-fidelity mockups that served as a visual and interactive blueprint for the development team.
  2. Prototype and Usability Testing:

    • Developed interactive prototypes and conducted usability testing to gather user feedback, leading to iterative design improvements.
    • Emphasized features like country selection, step-by-step guides, and FAQs to address specific user needs.
  3. Final Web Application Development:

    • Collaborated closely with web developers to bring the high-fidelity designs to life, ensuring fidelity to the UX design.
    • Integrated the explainer and tutorial videos within the platform, enhancing the user’s learning experience.

Outcomes

The project successfully delivered a full spectrum of educational and practical tools designed to empower individuals in the Caribbean to navigate the business and land registration process. Through thoughtful design and targeted content, the project has seen a positive reception, with increased engagement and a decrease in registration-related inquiries.

Reflection

 This project stands as a testament to the power of design and research in breaking down complex bureaucratic processes into accessible, user-friendly experiences. It was a privilege to lead a project that had a tangible impact on the ease of doing business and property ownership in the Caribbean.
